Sad days for our City
Oakville gets a million a year in tax revenue - we still get the bad air. Could it be worse? Would the plant have been in Mississauga without the Sept. 14 pointless rally and Monday's photo op stunt at the Legislature?
Our Mayor is found potentially in a Conflict of Interest (Royson James, Toronto Star story) and may face a judicial inquiry. (Joe Chin, Mississauga News story) Globe suggests potential conflict (John Wingrove, Globe and Mail story)
Last week Madam Mayor broke a confidence (property development with Mattamy Homes at 9th Line) during General Committee despite the Chair's effort to stop her.
My councillor (at Tuesday ratepayers' meeting) says we should all still support our Mayor and some should stop writing mean things. Left a few people puzzled. She promised to introduce a motion at council to show our support and appreciation - wonder if she did?
....and it has been seven weeks now that we've stopped calling ourself "Canada's Safest City."

Why be a member? Well for starters, I'd appreciate the encouragement. That bit of vanity aside, you will gain access to more topics and comments than the general public can view. The Mississauga News ran a disappointing story August 12th "One More Time for Hazel" "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven" Ecclesiastes Chapter 3:1 It is time to be our cherished Past Mayor. Thank you for all that you have done, now take the next tough step and let the next generation (perhaps too late already - the one AFTER that?) come forward to get their feet wet, stumble and learn. Hopefully you will provide an important ear and wise counsel to a new mayor. I say this will all due respect and appreciation. Who is on Committees? 1) elected officials - BUT how did they end up on that Committee? Is there a different Committee they preferred? Perhaps elected to champion - who denies them membership? 2) citizen members - they are appointed - by who? After what vetting? Should we be made aware (with person's permission) of citizens who apply for but are denied Committee membership? 3) Why no citizens on Audit?
