My Don Quixotic dream gained no traction.
Alas I will fade to black here, continuing with the quiet word to a couple and old fashioned letter to a couple of others.

Sad suggestion from questionable campI got a copy of this course of action advised by Cheryl Glasford (StopCarolynParrish.com) : "Here is a suggestion from one of our supporters and I like it. I will do a sample letter but please if you decide to join this e-mail campaign feel free to personalize your message: Cheryl Perhaps we can inundate all of their e–mail mailboxes with letters of condemnation and distaste. I’d be delighted to write them something but if you could send out a simple form letter which everyone could forward , that would be helpful. Also helpful to me would be an easily copyable list of the seedy, self-serving seven and their e-mail addresses. Here are the famous seven:" (councilor's email addresses were then displayed) Fortunately she listened to a writer (lawyer Peter Smith) and later questioned her request, but did not retract nor apologize for the clutter and waste of time she caused. This is what I'd written to a couple of friends: "So if I read the intent of the attached note... Can I conclude that they remain bullies, social miscreants and frivolous civic detractors? Shame on Cheryl for considering lowly childish tactics. Let's start an anti Hazel gathering? Can we rent an underused City property like the Living Arts Centre?" Of course all of that last line is in jest. For those interested in clarity - you might take a look at the Privacy Policy of Ms. Glasford's website. Funny in all three web browsers I use. Just like the message she is trying to spread. Alan Last Updated (Sunday, 06 December 2009 10:51) |
Old beliefs (since proven false)New Dec 26, 2006 - from the Globe & Mail, instead of Toronto's Amalgamation delivering $300,000,000 in savings per annum and leading to lower staff counts - staff is up 4,031 in 10 years, no sign of the savings anywhere.
A reader notes that "U.F.F.I. (Urea Formaldehyde Foam Insulation) is a health concern and we need to spend 5000 taxpayer dollars/UFFI home to aleviate that concern. I don't believe the National Research Council (NRC) found one case of illness due to the installation of U.F.F.I." I found one quick background piece to support him.

There are so many better causes - but as the 100,000th person to get active about the atrocities in Darfur, global pollution, missing aboriginal women, systemic violence, poverty and more - I bring no impact. I do like our City, lived here for 24 years in three homes, and I expect a lot more from it. Being part of the best is a wonderful feeling. Without being partisan I hope to get people informed, involved and voting Nov. 08, 2010 - even if against my own choices, just vote. I hope this can be a starting point for anyone wishing to shorten their learning curve to "get up to speed" about issues in Mississauga before heading to the polls. Please use your real name if posting- how else can we pursue transparency and accountability? That said - if I know who you are and we can figure out the disclaimer and your rationale is sound - there may be a reason to move from that ideal. You will note many invitations to write with critique and suggestions - all input is valuable and welcome. My goal with this project is to get more people engaged in the issues, involved in the process and casting a ballot November 8, 2010. One week after the results are final, I'll write a closing commentary and wind-up the site. Alan Forde This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
